Today’s Ask Lee Video Q & A is about protein powder, specifically with regards to how much protein powder should you have in each of your protein shakes… 1 scoop, 2 scoops, 1/2 scoop, etc…

What’s the ideal amount of protein powder that you should have?

Well the truth is that there isn’t a one size fits all answer to this question because how much protein powder you have really depends on your overall diet and your total protein intake for the day.

Ideally you should strive to eat 1 gram of protein per pound of lean bodyweight per day. This is your “Total Protein Intake” from all sources. Meaning the protein you get from food as well as the protein you get from supplements.

On days when you are able to eat a lot of solid food protein, you’re not going to need as much protein powder in order to meet your daily protein intake needs.

And vice versa, on those days when you’re extra busy and maybe don’t have time to eat as much solid food protein, than you’ll need to have extra protein powder in order to increase your protein intake for the day.

Now the ideal situation would be to get the majority of your protein intake from solid food and only have 1-2 protein shakes per day. Real food has more overall nutritional value than isolated protein powder.
