How do you safely detox while breast feeding

Detoxification has been used to get rid of unhealthy toxins and buildup in our cells and tissues. It simply means eliminating toxins from your bloodstream, liver, kidneys, and intestines by means of a particular diet or juicing protocol.

While this question has been asked by tons and tons of Juicing Mom fans, the answer will always remain the same, and it is “Don’t”. Never do any detox program while breastfeeding or nursing to your babies. Pregnancy and breastfeeding are both essential period to intake as many nutrients as possible for the healthy growth and development of the baby. You need so much of the calories, protein, carbohydrates, essential fats, minerals, vitamins, fluid, and other important nutrients from different food sources and wide arrays of diet.

Another thing is, in the removal of toxins through a cleanse or detox, the waste will re-circulate into the blood stream and possibly absorb into the baby’s blood stream via the placenta or through the breast milk, this is certainly not recommended and could be harmful to the baby.
When is the best time to do detox?

Detoxing should be done before and after pregnancy. Doing a cleanse or a reset a few months prior to conception is most essentially recommended as juicing can boost fertility and may also improve the health of the baby, and the parents.

Important nutrients vital for Mothers and their babies during pregnancy and breastfeeding:

Fulvic Acid – this is one of the needed nutrients that many mothers overlook. This important nutrient helps in the development of the baby helping it ward off toxins and other harmful substances that causes birth deficiencies.

Protein – we need an extra 10 grams per day. This is important for the growth of all tissue. Here is more on plant protein sources.

Calcium – if a pregnant or lactating woman does not intake enough calcium then it will be leached from her bones to ensure the baby’s needs are met for proper development.

Vitamin B12 – is essential for proper nerve and brain function for both mother and baby, a deficiency can caia, delayed growth, development and movement disorders.

Folate – is essential for the prevention of neural tubal defects and many studies stress the importance of this nutrient pre-conception and during pregnancy.

Iodine – Iodine deficiency becomes particularly critical in pregnancy due to neurological damage during fetal development as well as during lactation.

Iron – It is recommended to have approximately 30mg per day, double the normal recommendation.

Zinc – deficiency has been associated with birth defects and low birth weights. Sources include nuts, seeds, seafood, meats, egg yolk and whole grains.

Vitamin D – there are numerous studies associating this deficiency with pre-term labour, low birth weight, pre-eclampsia, poor growth, bone fragility and an increased incidence of auto-immune disease.

Vitamin K and C – it is estimated that many women are vitamin K deficient during pregnancy.

  1. The thing is: Your body is constantly detoxing – it is a cellular process that just happens. So whatever crap you have in your body is also feeding your baby. Progressively and gently changing your eating habits in itself is a "detox". Adding a juice or 2 a day while maintaining your calories and healthy eating, will allow your cells to detox more effectively, plus give you and baby added nutrition.

  2. My doctor has given me the OK to juice fast, I have an 8 month old daughter.
I'm not doing it for weightloss, I'm doing it to try to get rid of this problem that no antibiotics have…I did juice fast in 2014 bf a toddler and had a huge increase in milk supply adn this prob I had for 4 years went away for 2 years only for it to come back. Also, my son had consitpation problems, with my fast…cured him. My daughter is the same, I am hoping it will help her.

  3. If the toxins are already in you, then that would mean they're in the breastmilk to begin with? I've been juicing while breastfeeding mlo (my little one ) for the past six months, off and on, he even loves the juices as well. I really hope nothing too serious happens but so far nothing, however to be on the safe side I will stop juicing until mlo decides to quit, 19 months and counting.

  4. Drew, is it possible to pump breastmilk for the baby before the detox then pump and discard any produced milk during the reset? If so how long should I discard the breastmilk after detoxing before nursing as normal again? Any ideas?

  5. Nice to see this video. I was just commenting on all the shakeology videos and how they claim it is safe during pregnancy. As a certified holistic nutritionist and certified in pregnancy and early childhood nutrition, I strongly discourage the use of any product that detoxifies or tries to regulate hormones, shakeology is such a product.
So, I am going to end my search here, on a high note.

PS – please make sure that after you detox, you wait until after the 3 month mark to get pregnant. The genetic make – up of your egg today is what you did to it 3 months ago. That means if you were detoxing 3 months ago, your egg will be full of toxins. Wait the extra month, let all your hard work pay off and allow your new bundle of joy to reap the benefits.

  6. What do you juice while pregnant? I've been juicing for a couple months now haven't done a detox but my wife is wanting to start juicing and we just found out we are gonna have a baby April of next year I didn't know what was good or even if she can juice while she is pregnant.
